This includes both legitimate and unlicensed pharmacies.   Online pharmacies can include standalone sites, internet-only branches and partnerships among pharmacies.   Online pharmacies have been popular for more than 20 years.   Globally, 2986 online pharmacies operated in 2008, a number that would have risen by now.   In recent times, Indian consumers have also started using these online services.   E-commerce laws can be ambiguous and given different interpretations.  There are many laws that govern Indian online pharmacies, such as the Information Technology Act of 2000; Drug and Cosmetics Act of 1940; Drugs and Cosmetic Rules in 1945; Pharmacy Act in 1948; and Indian Medical Act (56).
